INTERVIEWS/ENTREVISTAS

About

A collection of ten interviews and conversations with Anzaldúa that took place from 1982 to 1999. Offering intimate windows into Anzaldúa’s upbringing, education, and beliefs, these conversations touch on many dimensions of her life, including her childhood, education, early social-justice work, work as an educator, commitment to writing, passion for ideas, and work with various social technologies.

Anzaldúa offers wide-ranging discussions of many of her original theories, including the Borderlands, mestizaje, nepantla, nos/otras, conocimiento, many more. While each interview contains invaluable insights on its own, read chronologically, the book offers both an overview and a deep dive into Anzaldúa’s developing philosophy. Each interview begins with a snippet from a conversation between Anzaldúa and her editor, AnaLouise Keating, in which Keating invites Anzaldúa to expand on or in other ways clarify her earlier statements.
